Chiapas CoService

Chiapas CoService is an effort to facilitate the local and international service learning opportunities for organizations, projects and communities in Chiapas.

Due to the time involved in negotiating volunteer positions for foreigners, many organizations either do not accept international volunteers or only do so under very restricted conditions.

Because of the bureaucratic complications involved in recruiting Mexican students for their obligatory 480 hours of academically-related “community service”, many organizations do not enter into the university systems to post jobs for students.

In response to these situations, Co-Service is:

  1. creating a database of organizations and job descriptions for Mexicans and foreigners
  2. establishing links with Chiapas universities in order to partner Mexican university “community service givers” as companions of foreigners, (based on interest, education and prior experience)
